The Paddlesport Rewards Scheme is a great way for clubs, centres, disciplines and committees to recruit and retain volunteers. When volunteers reach each level they can then receive their reward from Canoe England. It’s the perfect way to reward your volunteers with no extra cost to you!
Canoe England’s Paddlesport Rewards Scheme recognises the hours which our thousands of volunteers across the country are dedicating to their canoe club or centre.
Name of Club
Oakwood Youth Club
CE: What is your voluntary role at the club?
Stuart: I have a few roles within the club; Coach, Mentor and Driver
CE: How long have you been volunteering in Paddlesport?
Stuart: For around 3 years now
CE: What do you consider to be the best thing about volunteering?
Stuart: I love being able to give something back, being involved with young people and helping to introduce them to kayaking, canoeing and other outdoor pursuits which we offer at the club.
CE: How many hours a week do you volunteer?
Stuart: In the summer I normally volunteer around 3-6 hours per week but this year the club was extremely busy so my hours increased. There are also times when we have trips to Ireland (sea kayaking), Lake Bala (coaching), Lake Windermere (silver DofE expedition) and 4 counties canal trip, where I volunteer a lot more time. The trips are well worth it though.
CE: What has been your greatest achievement as a volunteer?
Stuart: Oakwood Youth Club prides itself on the delivery of a variety of activities for people with disabilities and to see the positive impact the sports we deliver can have on them is extremely rewarding.
CE: What impact do volunteers have at your club?
Stuart: Volunteers at our club work extremely hard to offer activities that can be accessed by all regardless of disability or ability. I think that most clubs would agree that without volunteer clubs such as ours wouldn’t be able to offer the range of activities they currently do and a huge number of clubs simply wouldn’t be able to continue.
CE: Why do you think people should give up their time to volunteer at their club?
Stuart: Because volunteers really do make a difference to peoples lives
CE: Why do you think people should join the Paddlesport Reward Scheme?
Stuart: The Paddlesport Reward Scheme is a great way to encourage young people (and old!) to volunteer in the sport.
