Sport England Launch Campaign Encouraging Young People Into Sport

Sport England has collaborated with production company Somersault and primary schools across the country to develop videos highlighting the importance of getting young people involved in sport.

They aim to demonstrate the diverse range of activities that children can become involved in, in order to be part of sport and show that there are so many more ways to do P.E in schools to give opportunities to children who may not be as interested in traditional P.E activities.

Hopefully by showing this diverse range and understand one sport doesn’t suit all, it will increase the participation in P.E by all children, which in turn will hopefully show improvements in academic performance across the curriculum and increase confidence in some children.

This is exciting to us at British Canoeing as by encouraging engagement in new activities, it will help young people be more willing to try new sports, such as canoeing. It will show that just because one sport isn’t for you it doesn’t mean you won’t like any sport. There is also an opportunity for coaches to go into schools and educate the young people on different sports. We hope this is the start of a lot more children being introduced to canoeing and getting involved from a young age.
