4 Star Provider – Logbook Prerequisites
Coaches wishing to run 4 Star Training and Assessment courses are required to complete a provider logbook. This is open to updated coaches who hold one of the following qualifications:
Moderate Water Endorsement or
BCU (UKCC) Level 3 or
BCU Level 3 Coach Award.
The coaching award must be in the relevant discipline and the appropriate 4 or 5 Star must also be held:

White Water Kayak Inland Kayak or White Water Kayak Coach and 5 Star WW
Leader
White Water OC1 Inland, or WW Kayak, or Open Canoe Coach and 4 Star WW
OC1 Leader
Freestyle Kayak and Canoe Inland Kayak, or White Water Kayak Coach and 4 Star Freestyle
Leader
Sea Kayak Sea Kayak Coach and 5 Star Sea Leader
Surf Surf Kayak Coach and 5 Star Surf Leader
Open Canoe Open Canoe Coach and 5 Star Open Canoe Leader
Touring Inland, or WW Kayak, or Placid Water, or Open Canoe, or Sea
Coach and 4 Star Touring Leader
The logbook process requires the aspirant provider to complete the following (in no particular order):
- BCU Assessor Training
- BCU Discipline Specific Star Award Provider Training
- Observe, support and co-deliver BCU 4 Star Training and Assessment courses with qualified. current and active providers.
5 Star Provider – Logbook Prerequisites
Coaches wishing to run BCU 5 Star Leader Training or Assessment are required to complete a provider logbook. This is open to updated coaches with one of the following coaching qualifications:
BCU (UKCC) Level 3 with Advanced Water Endorsement or
BCU Level 5 Coach Award
The coaching/leadership qualification(s) must be in the relevant discipline as defined below:

White Water OC1 Inland Kayak, or WW Kayak, or Open Canoe Coach and 5

The logbook process requires the aspirant provider to complete the following (in no particular order):
- BCU Assessor Training
- BCU Discipline Specific Star Award Provider Training
- Observe, support and co-deliver BCU 5 Star Training and Assessment courses with qualified, current and active providers.

Course Booking
Please be advised that unless you have an authorised logbook, you may not book directly onto the courses below. Candidates need to complete the first section of the logbook and return it for authorisation to attend Orientation. When your logbook is authorised, it will be returned to you with a booking form and an invitation to attend Orientation.
If you already have an authorised logbook, please complete the booking form available to download from this page and return to British Canoeing. Please ensure you are fully updated and still meet the 4 Star Leader Assessor Orientation prerequisites. This includes attendance at a WWSR course in the last 3 years. Please be advised that attendance at AWWSR does not replace or renew this.
