Out of Hours Service (Posted 30/01/15)
Aswe continually strive to improve the service offer available to ourcoach members we will shortly be trialling an Out of Hours service. Thefrom the 31st January to the 28th February the English Coaching Teamwill be operating an out of hours service, Saturday mornings between08.00 and 13.00.

Accreditation Survey (posted 09/06/2014)

As part of our ongoing review and monitoring ofthe BCU awards, British Canoeing and the Home Nation Associations areseeking input from relevant individuals and organisations on the valueof external endorsement/accreditation of our coaching awards.
BCU Level 1, 2, and 3 Coaching qualifications sit on both the NationalQualification Framework (NQF) and Scottish Qualification Framework(SCQF). As part of this we are recognised and regulated by he Office ofQualifications and Examination Regulation (OFQUAL) and the ScottishQualifications Authority (SQA).
The same qualifications also meet UKCC endorsement requirements set andmonitired by Sports Coach UK. This means that our awards meet specificsyllabus requirements and delivery standards consistent with othersports.

BCU Star Award Provider Review Update (posted 09/04/2014)
The BCU have recently concluded a review of the Star Award providerrequirements. We are currently concluding implementation matters such as theproduction of revised Logbooks and Assessor training/orientationcourses. In the meantime the current requirements for providers stillstand; these will be phased out alongside the introduction of theupdates.
 
 

It is worth noting that the current option for Level 3 coaches toregister as 3 Star providers will cease at the end of April 2014. Fromthis point forward they will need to complete the logbook process as iscurrently required of all other new providers.

The Plas Y Brenin ‘Future Leaders Fund’ (posted 25/06/2013)
Plasy Brenin, the National Mountain Sports Centre has recently announced afund to help support volunteer leaders and coaches in areas whereleaders and young people may be lacking in opportunity or advantage –The Future Leaders Fund. At Canoe England we are conscious that ourmembers may get involved in a number of outdoor activities as well aspaddling. If you are also involved in hill walking, mountaineering orclimbing we would like to share the following Funding Opportunity withyou. If you are purely paddling focused we would like to know if youwould be interested in this Fund being rolled out to Paddlesportvolunteers.

Important Changes to DBS Requirements and Eligibility

The new DBSeligibility requirement is linked to a person’s specific role and thefrequency and intensity in which they carry out that role. Thereforecoaches will no longer be required to hold a DBS Certificate (formerlyCRB) to meet the Canoe England Coach Update requirements, or to completeBCU UKCC Level 2 qualification. Coaches may still be required toundertake a DBS Check by their deployer in line with the type ofactivities/ role they are carrying out.

FREE Webinar: Tax Return Help for Coaches

If you are a coach or volunteer in sport or recreation, the Sport andRecreation Alliance are offering a free webinar to help you completeyour tax return in January. The online presentation lasts about an hour,and includes an opportunity for you to ask the presenter any questionsrelating to your tax return. This can be viewed Live on the the 16th and25th January at 10 or the 29th January at 7pm.
 

The Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 and the BCU (posted 24/05/12)

TheProtection of Freedoms Act 2012 recieved Royal Assent on 1st May 2012.It contains all of the new safeguarding and vetting requirements thatwill affect individuals in sport and recreation organisations who havecontact with children and vulnerable adults. Read more

BCU Coach Update Review (posted 05.04.2012)
The BCU is reviewing the current coach update scheme and invites you to contribute your views. We are keen to understand the views of coaches, leaders, employers and deployers on the virtues and short comings of the current scheme, and of desired features of the current scheme as they develop.
