Recruit

Recruiting new volunteers is an essential part of creating a successful and sustainable club. It can often be a daunting prospect to try and recruit new volunteers and many clubs rely on those already involved with the club i.e. members, families and ex-members, as these are easy to contact and already have an invested interest. However, as your club continues to grow you may need to start finding volunteers from other sources.

One of the first steps to take before recruiting new volunteers is to ask yourself a few key questions:

– Who is it that you want to recruit?
– Why do you want to recruit new volunteers?
– What skills do you want your volunteers to have?
– What do you think your potential volunteers will want from their volunteering experience?
– Who will look after the new volunteers?

Take some time to consider the above questions and set out a plan for your recruitment campaign. Volunteers from outside the current club set up could bring some valuable skills. Sources of volunteers to consider are:

– Universities
– Colleges
– Schools
– Local youth groups (Scouts)
Volunteer Centres
County Sports Partnerships
Sport Makers
Vinspired
Do-it volunteering
