Weirs Fish Passes and Canoe Chutes
Canoe England is working with the Environment Agency and other partners on a number of Weirs to improve both fish and canoe passage.Armley Weir, River Aire in Central LeedsIn this artists impression the canoe shoot is in the foreground, then the fish pass, which includes an Elver pass, and low water portage steps which double as maintenance steps. River Medway – Combined fish pass and canoe shoot.These pictures show, before, during and after the construction in 2008-2009 of an Environment Agency designed combined canoe shoot and fish pass to Porters Lock Weir on the River Medway in Kent.As a result of the success of this structure, a second one has been built on the Medway and a third one is planned.Plans are also underway for two more on the Thames.
